Rays Take 3 Off Roster

RaysST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays trimmed their roster by three players after today’s game, optioning LHP David Price, OF Justin Ruggiano and RHP Jae Kuk Ryu to the minor leagues.

The moves bring the Rays spring training roster total to 47 players. Price, 22, was chosen by the Rays first overall in the 2007 June Draft out of Vanderbilt University.

He made two scoreless appearances this spring with the Rays, totaling 2.0 innings pitched, three strikeouts, no walks, and no hits allowed. Ruggiano, 25, appeared in nine games for the Rays this spring. Last year with Durham (AAA) he hit .309 (149-482) with 20 home runs and 26 stolen bases before earning a promotion to the majors, where he played in seven games.

Ryu, 24, made two outings for the Rays this spring, totaling a 3.00 ERA over 3.0 innings. He broke spring camp with the Rays in 2007 before returning to Durham, where he went 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA in 14 starts/appearances.
